Live Music - Tin River

The Queen's Head, Blyford

20th August 8:30pm - 11pm

Regulars at local sessions, clubs and festivals , Tin River is Skip Shipley on melodeons & vocals, Mim Barnes on whistles & vocals and Marya Parker on guitar and vocals. They have played together and separately for about 40 years in various ensembles including Skelton Level, Bells Reaper, the Lucys and the Gatehouse Lads. Based in the Waveney area of North east Suffolk they combine instrumentals, acapella three-part harmony singing and accompanied songs from various traditions and sources to give a varied programme of music that is driving, lively, tender and considered. You’ll get toe- tapping tunes, belting choruses; they are Blaxhall Chorus Cup winners, as well as, usually, sad tales of love, betrayals, drownings and disasters. Equally happy playing acoustically in the corner of a pub, at fairs and fetes or doing formal concert sets for folk clubs or festival stages. They love the music and playing together and it shows.

“Tin River, a trio from North Suffolk/Norfolk are each masters of their instruments and together a formidable combination: melodeon with a flavour of the complex and idiosyncratic style, some excellent back up guitar with a combination Travis/fingerpicked style and intricate whistle work, songs accompanied and acapella, and tunes from a variety of sources. Tin River were excellent, a well-kept secret from the borderlands of Suffolk and Norfolk”.
